Is Cooking a Chore or a Sensory Delight?

The Key to Your Health Could Be Here...

Let me ask you this – when you cook, do you allow yourself the pleasure of taking in the colourful array of vegetables, the intoxicating aroma of garlic and herbs simmering in crisp, fresh olive oil, or the subtle scents that come together to create a symphony of flavour and fragrance, transporting your taste buds to another world with every bite?

Or is it simply a matter of throwing together whatever you can find in an ‘under 20-minute’ meal?

I ask you this as well – when did you decide that you deserve anything less than a full sensory experience when it comes to food and eating? Time constraints are a common excuse, as is a lack of know-how… but even if those barriers were removed, would you still slow down to truly appreciate your meal and allow your body the time it needs to catch up?

This is an important consideration for digestion and the way you feel when you go to bed and wake up the next day.

Food that is prepared with a variety of colours, textures, and flavours is often the same food that provides the highest nutritional value and therapeutic benefits - without depleting your body’s existing nutrient profile.

For example, a pasta dish made with gluten-free fettuccine and a pre-made sauce is hardly a nutritious option compared to the same pasta enhanced with fresh basil, pan-cooked garlic, and a juicy organic chicken thigh, simmered together for maximum flavour.

I find that food which begins its cooking journey with an aroma that awakens the senses (think garlic, onion, leek, or celery in olive oil) stimulates digestion before you even take your first bite. Your digestive system is already primed to produce the acids and enzymes needed to break down food efficiently.

A diet heavy in calorie-rich, white foods may be convenient, but it barely engages the senses the way food is meant to. Scientifically, these are also the same foods now linked to chronic illness and metabolic disease.

Life is far too short for bland food!

If you’re not confident in pairing flavours, why not make it your goal for 2025 to take a cooking class and learn how to create your own kitchen masterpiece?

Remember—our senses of smell and taste are powerful and deeply rewarding. Give your body the chance to experience food that not only delights but also heals.
